Kundli matching, explained

Enter both births. You get the 36-gun Guna Milan score, the classical answer — yes, yes with conditions, or no — what each koota means for the two of you, and every dosha with its exceptions. Free.

Classical roles

Guna Milan reads one person as the bride and one as the groom; three of the eight kootas depend on it. If that does not describe you, choose “no roles” and we read the match both ways round.

Bride
Time of birth

The exact time sets the rising sign and the houses. Don’t know it? Tick the box — Guna Milan still works, and we check every time on that day.

Groom

Both people must be 18 or over. This page keeps nothing once it is drawn.

Questions people ask

What is Guna Milan, and what do the 36 points mean?

Guna Milan (Ashtakoot) compares the two birth Moons on eight kootas — Varna (1 point), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8) — which add up to 36. Each koota looks at one part of married life, from temperament to family and finances. This page shows every koota’s points for both people and explains what each outcome means.

Is 18 out of 36 the minimum for marriage?

Yes — in classical practice 18 is the minimum. 18 to 24 is read as acceptable, 25 to 32 as very good and 33 or more as excellent. A score above 18 is not the whole answer, though: an uncancelled Nadi or Bhakoot dosha, or a one-sided Mangal dosha, makes the approval conditional. The answer on this page applies all of these rules and lists each one.

What is Nadi dosha, and does it rule a marriage out?

Nadi dosha is when both birth stars share the same nadi; it removes all 8 Nadi points and is the heaviest single objection. The classical texts also cancel it — for example when the birth star is the same but the Moon signs differ, the Moon sign is the same but the stars differ, or the star is the same but the padas differ. We check every exception and show which apply.

Why does another website show a different score?

Sites use slightly different tables for a few kootas — Yoni and Vashya especially — and some ignore the half-sign rule for Sagittarius and Capricorn. Our tables are checked against Prokerala’s published results on 26 test couples and match them on every koota but one cell, where we follow the classical rule. Expect differences of a point or two between sites; the doshas and the answer rarely change.

Does it work if we are not a bride and groom?

Yes. Three kootas in the classical tables read one person as the bride and the other as the groom. If that does not describe you, choose “no roles”: we read the match both ways round, show both totals, and give the answer for the lower one.

Can a birth chart tell whether a marriage will last?

No. Guna Milan says what the tradition associates with each part of married life, and the classical answer says whether the published rules approve the match. Whether two people do well together turns on things no chart records — how they talk, choose and treat each other.

What does the full reading add?

Guna Milan uses only the two Moons. The full reading opens both whole charts: the 7th house and Venus for each person, Navamsa (D9) compared, the partnership periods of the next six years for each of you and where they overlap, Mangal dosha from the Lagna, Moon and Venus, and seven areas of life read side by side. It is free while we launch, and kept at a private link for seven days.

Are our birth details stored?

The free matching page keeps nothing — both charts are computed, the page is drawn, and that is all. If you choose the full reading, we keep the computed result and the two first names so the reading stays at its link. We never keep either birth date, time or place.
