Am I Manglik? There are six answers, and they disagree

The usual free answer is one word. That word is produced by picking one of six defensible calculations without saying which, and it is used to call off engagements. This gives you all six, every cancellation that applies to each, and the thing nobody tells you — how many people it happens to.

Date of birth

Time of birth

Mangal dosha is a house placement, so it needs the time and the place — there is no honest way to answer it from a date. Nothing is stored: the chart is computed, the six readings are drawn, and it is gone. 18 or over only.

Worth saying plainly

What this is, and what it is not

  • It is a house placement, not a verdict. Mangal dosha is Mars occupying one of a handful of houses. Which houses, and what they are counted from, is where the traditions differ — so a single answer is a choice somebody made on your behalf.
  • Roughly half of everyone has it. 40% under the North Indian house set, 50% under the South Indian one, measured over this engine’s golden corpus. A condition half the population has is not a diagnosis.
  • The cancellations are not optional extras. The classical sources that describe the dosha describe the conditions that remove it in the same breath. Showing the objection without its relief is how this subject frightens people, and several sites charge for the second half.
  • Not a marriage verdict on its own. Mangal dosha is one input. The matching page reads it for both people beside the 36-point Guna Milan, where two Mangal doshas cancel each other and a one-sided one is weighed with every exception.

The rest of the chart

Mangal dosha is one placement. Your rising sign, your Moon, the period running over you now and the patterns the texts name are all computed from the same birth moment.

Questions people ask

What is Mangal dosha, and what does Manglik mean?

It is the name for Mars occupying particular houses counted from a reference point in the chart — most commonly the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th from the Ascendant. Someone whose chart meets that condition is called Manglik. It is a statement about a placement, not about a person.

How common is Mangal dosha?

Common. The raw rule triggers in roughly four charts in ten under the North Indian house set, before any cancellation is applied. A condition that a large share of people meet cannot carry the weight it is usually given, and the figure is shown beside every answer on this page rather than left out of it.

What cancels Mangal dosha?

Several classical conditions, and they are not rare — Jupiter aspecting or joining Mars, Mars in its own or exaltation sign, Mars in a luminary's sign, and others depending on the source. Every cancellation that applies to your chart is listed with the reading it modifies, and never sits behind a payment.

Does a Manglik have to marry another Manglik?

That advice is widely repeated and it is not advice this page will give. The claim that two Mangliks cancel each other out is folklore rather than a classical rule, and no reading here produces a verdict on who anyone should marry.

Why do different websites give me different answers?

Because they are answering different questions and rarely say which one. The houses counted differ between North and South Indian practice, and the reference point can be the Ascendant, the Moon or Venus — six defensible combinations in all. The same chart can be not Manglik under one and strongly Manglik under another. This page runs all six and shows you each.
