Questions people ask
When is Diwali in 2026?
Diwali 2026 is on Sunday, 8 November 2026 in Delhi. Amavasya is in force in the evening after sunset (pradosh) on this day.
Why do some calendars give a different date for Diwali?
Because Diwali is set by a tithi, and a tithi begins and ends at any hour, so it usually touches two days. Each observance names the part of the day its tithi must hold, and when the tithi holds that part of two days, or of neither, a classical rule decides. Calendars that count the month from the full moon, or follow the Vaishnava reckoning, can keep it a day apart. The dates here follow the rules DrikPanchang follows, and each one says which rule applied.
Is Diwali on the same day in every city?
Usually, but not always. Sunrise, sunset and moonrise differ from place to place, so a tithi that changes near one of those moments can fall on different days in different cities. The dates here are for Delhi; choose another city above to see its dates.
